Fun Communicative Teaching

What’s the key to effective learning?

According to The Significative Learning theory, the student only learns  what he is interested in and it’s related to his environment and daily life. That’s why when we think about how to teach it’s so important to have the following in mind:

Ø Teaching according to their TEACHING STYLES (this involves DIFFERENTIATION).
Ø Organize activities where they can do well.
Ø Emphasize MEANING rather than ACCURACY of the production of language.
Ø Use routines, so children will feel secure and know what to expect.
Ø Use commands and instructions in target language.
Ø Use stories children enjoy, even more than once. They will feel comfortable and engaged with them.
Ø Correcting mistakes all the time may damage their emerging confidence and self-esteem. Show interest and listen to them.
Ø Use games, music and different activities to present and develop the topic.

 Remember…  the students learn when...

Effective strategies to learn and teach vocabulary and pronunciation in the EFL classroom.

*        Give them multiple opportunities to use a new word in different ways.
*       Speaking in English all the time.
*       Use different activities: memory games, flashcards, guessing game, etc. Preset the word and then give them word clue according to the definitions word.
*    Use word maps: For each of these new vocabulary words the child, creates a graphic organizer for the word, look at classification, qualities and examples for its.

Here are 15 vocabulary activities that you can integrate into your classroom.

Teaching Grammar Communicatively

What do our students want to learn English for? As teachers, this a question we should ask ourselves. The most predominant answer would surely be…we learn to communicate, to interact with others,. etc. So, what do students need to learn so complicated grammar rules?
Grammar is essential, indeed. However, we, teachers, can change the students’ perspective towards it. It is the methods, the strategies and  techniques that we use what can make the difference.
Grammar rules will be clearer and be remembered better when students formulate them themselves (inductive learning) than when teachers formulate them (deductive learning).

But… What is inductive learning?

In contrast to the deductive method, inductive instruction makes use of student “noticing”. Instead of explaining a given concept and following this explanation with examples, the teacher presents students many examples showing how the concept is used. This is for students to “notice”, through examples, how the concept works.

ThenWhat to do the teachers?

**Integrated grammar teaching is a unique and an authentic approach because it implements the  pre-, while- and post-stages.

**Make it meaningful and related to Students lives.
**Provide real contexts.
**Recall it over and over ( practice makes  practice)
**Give Students the chance to make mistakes and self- correct their own mistakes.
