STRATEGIES TO MANAGING LARGE CLASSES

v Make small groups of four to six students. Put them in a circle on the floor.

v Define different roles for the students.  It is very important to  avoid them being lazy.

v Pair work is an excellent  strategy to do the students practice the language and feel them more confident. One of the main motivations to encourage pair work in the English language classroom is to increase the opportunities for learners to use English in the class.

Example

The learners are answering comprehension questions in pairs after reading a text. This allows them to compare answers, and clarify problems together using English.

v Do an excellent Desk Placement in your classroom. Its can be an some good ideas.

These classes involve, most of the times, mixed abilities, language levels, motivation, needs, interests, and goals. Nevertheless, teaching and managing such classes is possible if steps such as those described above are taken
